In the realm of sustainable agriculture, a groundbreaking initiative is underway, powered by the support of the German government and led by Global Project Partners – Berlin (GPP) in collaboration with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Magdeburg, Germany, along with three dedicated Egyptian partners. At the heart of this project is the dynamic and visionary Rania Reda.

Rania Reda, a figurehead in the world of digital technologies and food business, is taking center stage in the Smart Agri Project. Her passion for innovation and sustainability has led her to become an invaluable contributor to this transformative endeavor.

Elevating Egypt’s Palm Dates Industry

Together with the Horticultural Export Improvement Association (HEIA), the Smart Agri Project has embarked on an ambitious mission. Their goal is to enhance the quality and production rates of palm dates using digital technologies, all while cultivating a skilled workforce of palmers and technicians. Rania Reda’s expertise in digital technologies and her dedication to fostering the growth of Egypt’s skilled workforce make her an essential part of this project.

Empowering the Agri-Food Sector

Rania Reda eloquently points out, “Dates have become known globally as superfoods. They have all the nutrients people need.” To harness Egypt’s full potential in this industry, there’s a need for highly skilled workers, and the Smart Agri Project aims to meet that demand. With five million date trees recently planted, the project’s three-year duration aims to produce highly skilled palmers who can maintain palm trees to yield high-quality dates.

Training for the Future

The first phase of training focuses on two key areas: enhancing the knowledge of Egyptian agronomists in palm tree cultivation and equipping palmers with essential digital skills. The innovative “train the trainers” approach is designed to ensure the sustainability of knowledge transfer long after the project’s completion.

Dr. Sherif El Shorabasy led the initial training sessions at El Wahat El Baharia, covering both theory and practical aspects of agriculture. Rania Reda then stepped in to provide comprehensive training in digital skills, covering everything from internet fundamentals to data security and collaboration.

Expanding Horizons

Following El Wahat el Baharia, the project is set to provide training in all major date-producing governorates, including El Minia, Siwa, El Wahat El Kharga, El Fayoum, and Cairo. Rania Reda’s role will be to impart digital expertise, from the basics to advanced digital communication and collaboration.

Embracing Technological Advancements

The training’s final phase will introduce participants to the latest agricultural technologies and advanced systems, including the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, drones, smart sensors, and Agritech solutions. This knowledge promises to open doors to new job opportunities and align practices with international standards.

Empowering Women

The Smart Agri Project is committed to inclusivity and gender equality. Women, even in the sweltering conditions of El Wahat El Bahraia, have been active participants. They have embraced the training with enthusiasm, forming their own training groups. This initiative not only advances their skills but also creates opportunities for additional income, furthering financial independence.

Meet Rania Reda

Rania Reda is not only a driving force in the Smart Agri Project but also the Co-Founder and CEO of Brito Cloud Kitchens. She serves on the Steering Committee of the Digital Arabia Network and is the Founder and CEO of ITQAN for Smart Solutions, and previously the Founder and CEO of Augmania. Her impressive educational background includes a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alexandria and a master’s degree in executive business administration from the European School of Management & Technology (ESTM) in Berlin.
