Treveina Basily, an Egyptian woman from Tanta, who is currently living in Australia made the discovery of a lifetime when she found out that her DNA directly descends from an ancient Egyptian mummy dating back to the Saite dynasty, the ninth period of ancient Egyptian history.

Trevenia did her DNA test out of curiosity, she told the media. “I have been hearing my friends talk about their lineage and family tree all my life. I was also curious to know where my roots are from.”

Three months after sending off a sample, she was delivered the results. However, she found them difficult to understand, so she to the researcher in genetics and genealogy, Muhammad Abd al-Hadi to help her. She was surprised to learn that her DNA dates back to the Saite dynasty. Her DNA results revealed that she is 100 percent of ancient Egyptian lineage.

Treveina commented of the findings that although many people today share much DNA with ancient Egyptians, her results were unique because they shows a genetic similarity with the DNA of a mummy.
