With a passion for music and folk dance since childhood, Soha Muhammad Ali founded in 2019, (Tabala El-Set), (The Woman’ Drum Band) For Music & Egyptian Folk Songs. Tablet El Set is an all women’s group aged between teenties and early thirties.

Shattering stereotypes, the members of the band play percussion instruments and sing Egyptian folk songs. With melodies that echo through time, these women breathe new life into age-old traditions, preserving the rich heritage of Egyptian folk music while adding their unique voices to the chorus of cultural expression.

With their growing fan base, “Tabla El-Set” band has held many concerts; at the Goethe Institute, at the Citadel during the International Drum Festival in Egypt, at the Egyptian Opera House, the Spanish Cultural Center, El Sawy Cultural Wheel, and others.

The band aims to provide a place and an opportunity for women who have talent and desire to play and sing, even if they have never tried before. The band also offers musical workshops for women.

Soha holds a BA in German Language. She studied percussion at the Institute of Arabic Music for 4 years, with the famous percussion instructor Said Al-Artist. She also studied for a year at theAcademy of Arts, Department of Rhythm.

The team’s rehearsals take place in a studio in Dokki. Soha trains the team members to play percussion instruments. The band members play the drum, duff, tambourine, dahol, the castanets, rabab and the oud. A singing instructor trains the members to sing.

In addition to preserve the Egyptian folklore music, the band also aims to spread joy and happiness all over Egypt, “and perhaps in the whole world.” Soha hopes that the band will be able to hold concerts abroad too.
