PINK TAX | The Gender- Based Price Discrimination

Pink Tax isn’t an actual tax; it refers to discriminatory pricing that markups the cost of goods marketed to women, for which men pay less for similar products.

Women pay higher prices to buy the same products just because companies use the pink or purple color to advertise for the product, its design or the packaging, despite that these products contain the same ingredients as the men’s.

Women pay more in various consumer goods and services such as deodorants, shampoos, body wash, razor cartridges; and also apparel such as T-shirts and jeans. These products and services have higher prices compared to men’s versions, even though they use same ingredients and material.

When a company sells a pink product (the female version) for more than a blue product (the male version), the additional revenue from the pink product goes to the companies who charge women more than men.
