In a heart warming gesture, Egypt’s Tourism Authority invited a Canadian family to visit Egypt, fulfilling the dream of its children to see the pyramids before losing their vision. Three of the four children have been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic condition that causes a loss or decline in vision over time.

The family decided to take their children on trip around the world to fill them with “visual memories”, by visiting some of the beautiful places and historical sights around the world. They embarked on their journey in March 2022.

The Head of the Tourism Authority explained in a televised phone interview that after they heard about the family’s journey, they invited them to visit Egypt. On their Facebook page, the parents wrote, “A few months ago we received an amazing invitation from Egypt Tourism Authority. They had heard our story and wanted to give our kids the chance to see their country. We really are spoiled especially since the kids have been wanting to see the pyramids for a long time So we extended our trip a bit with a jump to Egypt.”

After they visited the pyramids and the museums in Cairo, they took the night train to Aswan, to start their Nile Cruise to Luxor. The grand finale of their Egypt experience was riding in an air balloon over the temples and the valley of the kings in Luxor at sunrise.
