Egyptian-Scottish classical duo the Ayoub Sisters will share the stage with students and alumni of the Conservatoire of Scotland in a special performance in Edinburgh on Wednesday 5 July at St Giles’ Cathedral in celebration of Their Majesties’ Coronation. King Charles III, accompanied by The Queen, will be presented with the Honors of Scotland at a National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication.

Laura and Sarah Ayoub are born to Egyptian parents, and raised near Glasgow. They grew up surrounded by classical and Arabic music. They have been playing together since early childhood, and though Laura is primarily on violin and Sarah on cello, they are both multi-instrumentalists, and characteristically employ loop pedals. The sisters have stirred up a lot of excitement, shooting to stardom in the classical and crossover worlds in a flash.

Discovered by Mark Ronson and now signed to Decca Records in partnership with Classic FM; the multi-instrumentalist sisters recorded their debut album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the world-renowned Abbey Road Studios. Their album debuted at No.1 in the Official Classical Artist Albums Chart. Laura and Sarah Ayoub also won the Arts Category at the 2017 Young Scot Awards.

The duo play many musical genres, from classical music to Scottish traditional repertoire, pop, funk, and world music. In February, 2023, they released their debut album, Arabesque, a medley of classical tradition with world music.

The sisters have performed across the UK, Europe, Middle East, and Asia with highlights including appearances at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, London Palladium, The Embassy of Egypt in the UK, The Cairo Opera House. They also broke a record in China of 13 performances in 4 days.

  1. They play with such heart and skill. It is a great pleasure going on YouTube to listen to their performances. Hopefully, one day I can be in a country where they are playing and attend in person.
