Habiba Marzouk became a social media sensation after her rhythmic gymnastics dance — at the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in Valencia — went viral.

In a costume of an ancient Egyptian queen, and swaying to the beats of the famous Egyptian folksong “Luxor Baladna” (Luxor our Town), Habiba took the audience by storm, as the crowd sheered her performance.

Her video and photos were shared across social media platforms across Egypt, the region and even made it to international news sites.

“I was one of the participants in the opening ceremony of the Rams Road, which took place in Luxor Governorate some time ago, so this show inspired me to present a similar image in the tournament,” Marzouk said, adding that she has been training for nearly a month for the show.

In May 2023, the top-ranking African gymnast won the African title in Mauritius. She had won the gold medal for both the individual and team competitions.

In 2021, Marzouq she won the  Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Azerbaijan, which qualified her to represent Egypt at the Tokyo Olympics. At Azerbijan, she had achieved the best score for any African player in the history of the World Cups for Rhythmic Gymnastics.
