Dina Ayman, Egyptian-American investor on AI Venture Capital Funds, leads Software Engineering programs at Microsoft Headquarters, and a Professor of Computer & Electrical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Dina is a Forbes Under 30 Honoree for North America 2022 in Enterprise Technology and have received a Presidential Award from the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Abdelfattah Elsisi for being one of the most influential world youth at the World Youth Forum 2022.
She has graduated with both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the same year in Computer Engineering with honors. Dina is a strong advocate for Diversity and Inclusion and Women in Tech.
Dina was born in the US. She lived in Egypt while in elementary and middle school, then moved back to the US to attend high school, and has been living there since then. It was challenging for Dina to alone in the USA away from her mother and younger three siblings while studying two degrees at the same time.
Dina is proud of being Egyptian and Muslim and she carries her values everywhere she goes. She celebrates everything Egyptian as if she’s still living in Egypt, she says.
She believes it is important to maintain the Egyptian identity and heritage. “Being Egyptian is who I am. That’s where my parents are from and that’s where my kids will belong one day too. Regardless of how many other citizenships I hold, I’ll always be proud saying I’m Egyptian.”
Dina watches Egyptian TV, celebrates Egyptian holidays and enjoys the Egyptian food her mother prepares. Dina’s mother moved back to the US after 11 years of being away. “We really enjoy cooking Egyptian food at home. My Mom bring a little piece of Egypt to our home with her amazing food. (and sense of humor, which are my favorite two thing about Egypt”
Despite her family lives in NY, Dina visits Egypt every year, and sometimes twice a year. She feels so connected to Egypt and gets so emotional when she hears the Egyptian national anthem, she almost cries, even though she lived most of her life in the US.
A memorable experience that highlights the intersection of her Egyptian identity and her life in the USA is her work with the government in both countries. She served on the Technology and Telecommunication Commission, reporting to the Mayor’s office in Austin, TX. Additionally, she worked with the Minister of Immigration in Egypt. These roles allowed her to serve people, showcasing the intersection of both her Egyptian and American identities.
Dina has already accomplished many successes she is proud of, among which she was featured on the Forbes Under 30 List for North America. “It gave me a family and a place to call home with brilliant minds for the rest of my life.” In addition, she was awarded by the President of Egypt. “Being chosen and standing with the President El-Sisi on the same stage is a huge lifetime responsibility.”
When asked about what advice to give other Egyptian women who are considering moving to the USA, she said, “Do it! Do it for yourself if you think it’s a good opportunity to grow. I always get DMs from girls that have scholarships in the US and they are scared to make that move. I believe that education and career is something to go after and travel across the world to achieve. And their fear might be the only thing that’s limiting them.”
