Zamalek Sporting Club, known to its huge passionate and dedicated fanbase as just Zamalek or The White Castle, is one of the top football (soccer) teams in Egypt.

Zamalek has a rich history of success in both domestic and international competitions. They have won numerous Egyptian Premier League titles and Egypt Cup titles. They have also achieved success on the continental stage, winning the CAF Champions League multiple times. And has always been led by a male president! But this may change soon.

Mervat Sayed Ahmed has submitted her nomination papers for the upcoming Zamalek Sporting Club presidential elections. She is the first woman to run for this position since the club’s founding in 1911. The elections are scheduled to take place on October 20th.

Mervat is a fresh retiree. She had served as the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the Central Administration of Parliament and Civic Education. Additionally, she was the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ministry’s Youth Health and Social Care Fund. She has also obtained a certificate in Sports Institutions Management.

She has announced that she will dedicate all her time to the club. She also announced that one of her goals is to resolve the crises and conflicts in the club.

Zamalek is not limited to football. The club is involved in a wide range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, handball, and more.

Zamalek’s former President Mortada Mansour announced his exit from any position within the club after being removed from the presidency by a judicial ruling.

Mortada Mansour was a controversial and prominent figure in Egyptian football as the president of Zamalek Sporting Club. He served as the president of Zamalek for several terms. His tenure was marked by a mix of achievements and controversies.

A practicing lawyer, Mansour is known for his outspoken and controversial statements, both in football and politics, he often made headlines for his confrontational style and public feuds with rival clubs, officials, and even fans.

During his time as Zamalek’s president, Mansour was involved in various legal disputes, including legal battles with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and other clubs. He was suspended from his position on multiple occasions due to disciplinary issues.

Despite the controversies, Mansour was re-elected as Zamalek’s president in several elections, reflecting the divided opinions within the club’s fanbase.

On February 25, 2023, Mansour voluntarily surrendered himself to Egyptian authorities to begin serving a one-month prison sentence in Wadi el-Natrun. This sentence was related to a defamation case against Al-Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib.

After completing his prison term, he resumed his duties at Zamalek. However, in April 16, the Court of Administrative Justice ruled that Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, was required to remove Mansour from his position as Zamalek president. He was removed by a judicial ruling.

After he lost the appeal in August 2023, Mansour announced his exit from any position within the club.
