Haya Khairat To Receive the Angénieux Special Encouragement Award at Cannes Film Festival 2023

The ceremony will be held on May 26th, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. It marks a decade of celebrating cinematography’s greatest masters.

The award allows new talent to use the best of Angénieux technology for their next project.

Director, cinematographer, and photographer Haya Khairat becomes first Egyptian to receive this award.

Born in Egypt 1995, Haya studied cinematography at The High Cinema Institute of Cairo. Her work as a photographer and as a filmmaker has been featured several times on platforms like Egypt today, Cairoscene, Scoop Empire, Onorient, Women of Egypt, and others.

She worked as a first assistant cinematographer in several TV shows and films including “Afrah El Qobba”, “La Totfe’ Al Shams”, “El Rehla”, “Bashtery Ragel”, and others.

She received Director of Cinematography Award at Cairo International Film Festival in 2019 for the short film “Dark Chocolate”.

From cinematography, she moved to directing. She directed several TV commercials and digital campaigns.

In 2020, she received the Silver Lynx at Dubai Lynx Awards for directing “ZERO TOLERANCE RIBBON” campaign to raise awareness against female genital mutilation.
