Under the theme, “The Past, Present and Future”, Egypt Fashion Week will kick off with an opening night on May 12th at the Egyptian Museum, featuring the “Best of Egyptian Designers” fashion show followed by a gala dinner.

“The past because, of course, our designers should be inspired by our culture, by our heritage,” Susan Sabet, co-founder of Egypt’s Fashion and Design Council, explained the theme of the event.“The present, because we do live in the present and we are very much aware of what is going on in the world,” she added. “And the future because we know where everything is going, where we should be in a few years.”

Egyptian culture has inspired many international design houses, including Chanel, Zuhair Murad and Elie Saab, hence the organizers believe it was time to hold Egypt’s own Fashion Week.

“Inspired by the rising number of emerging designers and growth of the local fashion industry, we knew the time had come to show the world our pool of creative talents and local cotton and textile industry. Egypt Fashion Week has been almost four years in the making, but this is what it took to be 100% sure that we will deliver an event that will hold its par with established and recognized fashion weeks around the globe and impress our Egyptian and our international guest that includes distinguished fashion industry leaders and media,” shares Susan Sabet, EFDC co-founder, during the press launch.

The following two days will be held at the Museum of Agriculture, which will be opening its doors for the first time after five years of renovation for EFW. On the grounds will be the runway shows co-produced by Austrian-based creative agency Creative Headz. Along with the catwalk shows, there will be exhibitions from fashion, accessory and jewellery designers and showcases of local and international fashion schools, featuring The Azza Fahmy Design Studio, Fashion & Design Center, Cairo Design District, FAD Dubai, and Creative Space Beirut.
